AAB Meeting (2017)

**Some information redacted

Moderator: Greg Baker

Chapter Advisor: Tom Aubrey

Chapter President: Griffin Romney

Alumni attending: Over 50+

Apologies to those who couldn’t join the call. The original call-in number limit was immediately exceeded and dozens were unable to connect. We will improve this forward.

Petition, process & responses to date – Greg Baker

  • Messages recently sent to 400+ alumni email addresses. Over 150 have pledged support to chapter petition with their names affixed.

  • Alumni will join next chapter meeting at the house (401 Charles Street) Sunday September 17 at 6pm to read our petition to chapter in person. Please join us and park in the Marriott Hotel parking ramp (Pike house is adjacent).

  • After that, we will all meet at Buffalo Wild Wings (360 Albert Avenue – short walk across from Marriot) to debrief and further the Alumni Advisory Board

  • Tom Aubrey has valiantly served as both chapter advisor and Housing Corp Manager for past 8 years . Unfortunately alumni support went dormant so Tom and e-board need help to get us through this year and back on track.

Current state and action plans – Tom Aubrey

  • No parties will be held rest of year.

  • Cameras installed in house today to monitor activities (damage, alcohol on grounds)

  • Fence around grounds to be installed next month to reduce passerby traffic.

  • Chapter has good, solid kids, but needs more alumni mentors and guidance (seriously lacking). This will help discipline and culture, restoring the proud foundation we all helped build.

  • Need to establish behavior by-laws with defined consequences by 9/17/2017. Being drafted for presentation at Sept 17 chapter meeting. This will include clear means for removing members for bad behavior.

E-Board perspective – Griffin Romney

  • Chapter is widely regarded as #1 house on campus

  • Scholarship: Won scholarship award from IFC last year for top GPA at MSU

  • Leaders: Many holding prominent campus positions

  • Athletes: Current champions in football, hockey and soccer

  • Gentlemen: Raised $5,000 at Fireman’s Challenge in honor of a brother who passed away last Thanksgiving. Raised $4,000 for orphan scholarships and $3,000 for Flint water crisis.

  • MSU Pikes are now the largest fraternity in Michigan. Chapter has 127 members + potentially 40 more after Rush next week.

  • Most guys value SLAG, but a handful are a challenge. Especially last Spring.

  • Other longer established fraternities (i.e. SAE) have strong alumni support and mentorship, something lacking with MSU Pikes

  • E-board really wants more alumni support and guidance. Men willing to give back.

Alumni Advisory Board signups – Greg Baker

  • We have 10 positions to fill below and need alumni leaders to participate on the virtual advisory board (1 hour phone call per month this school year)
